Trademark Policy
Effective Date: 8 July 2026
SPWIG® is a registered trademark of Spwig Pte. Ltd. All rights are reserved. The AGPL-3.0-or-later licence that governs the Spwig source code does not grant any right to use the SPWIG® mark, the Spwig logo, or the associated brand assets.
1. What This Policy Covers
The Spwig commerce platform is released as open-source software under the AGPL-3.0-or-later (platform and components) and Apache-2.0 (SDKs) licences. The open-source licence covers the code. It does not grant rights to use Spwig's trademarks.
This policy explains what you may and may not do with the following marks (collectively, the "Marks"):
- The SPWIG® registered trademark and stylised variants of the "Spwig" name.
- The Spwig logo and associated brand assets.
- Marks used for Spwig products, editions, and services (for example, "Spwig POS", "Spwig Hosting", "Spwig Pro", "Spwig Enterprise").
2. Fork-Friendly Framing
We want a healthy fork ecosystem. This policy is deliberately permissive for community activity that does not create confusion about who provides the software. If you are unsure whether something is allowed, contact [email protected] — we'd rather help than surprise you with a takedown.
3. What You May Do Without Asking
3.1 Nominative Use
You may use the word "Spwig" to accurately describe or refer to the Spwig software or Spwig products, in text and in a plain typographic style. Examples:
- "A Spwig-based storefront."
- "Compatible with Spwig 2.x."
- "Migration guide from WooCommerce to Spwig."
- "Powered by Spwig."
3.2 Redistribution of Unmodified Software
You may distribute the Spwig software as-is, unmodified, with the Marks and branding intact. It is the same product; describing it as such is accurate.
3.3 Community Content
You may use the Spwig name in the title of a community-run blog post, tutorial, meetup, podcast, or educational video that discusses or teaches Spwig, provided it is clear the content is community-created and not affiliated with Spwig Pte. Ltd.
3.4 Non-Commercial Personal Projects
Displaying the Spwig logo on your own personal site to indicate that you run Spwig is fine.
4. What You May Not Do
4.1 Forks Cannot Be Called "Spwig"
If you modify the Spwig source and distribute the modified version, that fork must not be called "Spwig" or any name likely to be confused with it. Rename it. Examples:
- ✅ "Fooshop (a fork of Spwig)"
- ✅ "Bar-Commerce, based on Spwig"
- ❌ "Spwig Community Fork"
- ❌ "Spwig Plus" or "Spwig Enhanced"
4.2 Commercial Hosting Cannot Brand as "Spwig Hosting"
You may run a commercial hosting service on the Spwig software and describe it as "Powered by Spwig". You may not brand your service as "Spwig Hosting", "Spwig Cloud", "Managed Spwig", or any name suggesting it is an official Spwig offering, without a written trademark licence from Spwig Pte. Ltd.
4.3 No Modified Logos
You may not alter the Spwig logo, combine it with other marks, or create derivative marks. If you'd like to indicate compatibility, use plain text ("Compatible with Spwig") rather than a modified logo.
4.4 No Domain Squatting or Confusing Handles
You may not register domain names, social-media handles, or app-store identifiers that incorporate "Spwig" in a way likely to cause confusion about origin — for example, spwig-hosting.com, @SpwigOfficial, or an app named "Spwig Admin" that is not distributed by Spwig Pte. Ltd.
4.5 No Implying Endorsement
Do not imply Spwig sponsorship, endorsement, partnership, or certification without a written agreement. Descriptive phrases like "Spwig-compatible" or "runs on Spwig" are fine; "Official Spwig Partner" or "Spwig Certified" are not, unless we have said so in writing.
5. Community Extensions, Themes, and Plugins
If you publish a theme, provider integration, or component that runs on Spwig, you may name it descriptively:
- ✅ "Widgets Pro for Spwig"
- ✅ "Stripe Connect provider for Spwig"
- ❌ "Spwig Widgets Pro"
- ❌ "Spwig Stripe"
The distinction is whether "Spwig" appears as an adjective (describing what your product works with) or as the noun (branding your product as if it were an official Spwig product).
6. Merchandise, Events, and Fan Content
Small-scale fan use — a sticker on a laptop, a T-shirt worn to a conference, a slide in your talk — is fine. If you want to produce merchandise or run a commercial event that uses the Marks, contact [email protected] for permission.
7. Reporting Misuse
If you see the Marks being used in a way that infringes this policy, please report it to [email protected] with the URL or reference. We prefer to resolve issues by discussion; enforcement action is a last resort.
8. Enforcement
We will enforce these marks where necessary to prevent confusion about the source of the Spwig software and services. Enforcement is not intended to constrain community discussion, criticism, education, or comparative reviews — those are protected uses that we welcome.
9. Requesting a Trademark Licence
If you'd like to use the Marks in a way this policy does not permit — for example, a certified partner programme, a co-branded hosting offering, or an event under the Spwig name — contact [email protected] with details. We'll respond within 10 business days.
10. Changes to This Policy
Spwig may update this Trademark Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised.
11. Governing Law
This policy is governed by the laws of Singapore, consistent with the Spwig Terms of Service.
